In every tournament he plays in, there is a bounty on Barry Greenstein’s head. No, it isn’t the fact that he is a well-know pro or that he’s the father of Joe Sebok. It is his book, Ace on the River, which he rewards to the player who knocks him out. The Bear traditionally autographs it and details the knockout hand before handing it off and hitting the rail.
While walking past Barry’s table during break, we noticed the book on the table where he once sat with four lonely black 100 chips. With the blinds raising to 300/600, Greenstein appears ready to present his gift. Even though he has less than a big blind, the book gives those 400 chips a special value to whomever will claim them.
On a more serious note, Event #38 is on break and David “Doc Sands” Sands cannot stop chipping up. He is now pushing 40K in chips after eliminating a player with Q
Q
on a queen high board, and remains the chip leader in the field.
Sadly Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire and Daniel “amichaikk” Mackowski have hit the rail.
WSOP 2009 Event #36 $2K NLHE
While the blind versus blind confrontation was kind to Jason Gray a couple of hour agos, another blind versus blind confrontation found him heading for the rail. We missed the hand, but Gray’s tablemate Joe “Dyzalot” Morneau was kind enough to fill us in on what happened. Jason was in the big blind and proceeded to get it all-in preflop with the player in the small blind. Jason held tens, the other player held queens, and he failed to improve so he was eliminated. While Gray has since gone, Morneau is on a bit of an upswing. He eliminated a short-stacked player while holding pocket aces, knocked off another player when his K-10 held against their 9-10 on a ten-high flop, and is now sitting just above average with 260K.
Another player who picked up chips this past hour is a friend of Gray and a fellow Oregonian, Jordan “Octavian_C” Rich. Rich, pictured right, took down a big pot when, with the blinds at 3K/6K ante 500 a player raised to 15K in early position, Jordan reraised to 45K total, and the initial raiser moved all-in for 92K more. Rich said he tanked for around two minutes before calling, fearing his pocket queens might be no good. Turns out, he had little reason to be scared, as the other player held pocket fives. After busting that player, Rich is up to 275K.
Christian “charder30″ Harder took a hit at a nearby table. Harder raised from the cutoff, but we didn’t catch up with the action until after the small blind had re-raised to 75K. Harder thought for a minute or so before announcing all-in. The small blind reluctantly called and was surprised to see that his A
Q
was ahead of Christian’s A
T
. The board didn’t improve Harder’s hand, and he dropped to 211K.
Here are some other chip counts as the field shrinks under 50 players:
Jonathan “therookieqq9″ Plens - 490K
Jordan “scarface_79″ Smith - 440K
Jack “doctor_fun” Powell - 250K
