Barry Loses a Coin Flip…Kinda by Rich on 06.23.09, 1:59 am

After returning from a quick break in Event #40, Vitaly Lunkin raised to 120K from middle position and was called by Barry Greenstein (pictured left) and Josh Arieh in the blinds. The flop fell 962 and both Greenstein and Arieh checked. Lunkin led out for 200K and Greenstein raised to 800K. Arieh folded and Vitaly went into the tank.

He stood up and reached into his pocket for a moment, clearly fishing for something. After a moment, he finally found what he was looking for. Pulling a coin out of his jeans, he announced that if the coin landed a certain way, we don’t know whether it was heads or tails, he would go all-in. If it landed the other way he would fold.

Everyone watched in amazement when the coin left his hand. It tumbled on the felt a bit before landing and once it did Lunkin pushed his stack in. Greenstein snap-called and the hands were tabled:

Lunkin: AA87
Greenstein: 9785

The Bear was behind at the moment, but his straight and flush draws made him a mathematical favorite to win or chop the pot. The turn was a big red brick; the Q. The crowd was silent, on their toes waiting for the river. It was black, but it was the 3, missing every draw Barry held.

Greenstein was gracious in defeat as always, signing his book and giving it to Lunkin. The Bear has to settle with ninth place and $82,746.

WSOP 2009 EVENT #42 $2.5K MIXED

The money bubble has burst in Event #42 and 40 plays remain in the Brasilia Room.

Jon “PearlJammer” Turner leads the pack with 260K in chips. Keith Lehr couldn’t help but jeer Turner after he raked in yet another pot. “Do you ever lose one Jon?” he asked.

Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen is raking his share of pots as well. Rasmussen is biting at Turner’s heels with 200K to his own name.

Eric “jakz101″ Crain (pictured right) eliminated Robert Williamson III near the money bubble. During a round of PLO, Williamson pushed the last of his small, 10K stack in the middle and Crain made a crying call. “I am so far behind,” he told Robert. Crain was right, he was well behind:

Crain: Q732
Williamson: A774

The KT2 flop was friendly to Wlliamson, but the 5 on the turn brought a flush draw, straight draw and low draw for Crain. The K on the river gave Eric the winning flush and sent Robert to the rail

Here are chip counts from the remaining P5ers:

Chris “SLOPPYKLOD” Klodnicki – 186K
Erick “jakz101” Crain - 60K
Rami “arbianight” Boukai – 55K
Frank “gator93″ Hernandez - 45K
Kevin “kice32″ Iacofano — 33K
Spencer “spankybabes” Lawrence - 16K
