A Banana a Day by Jessica on 06.16.09, 12:44 am

Adam “Roothlus” Levy (pictured right) told us he reached his high point at the first break of today’s $2K NLHE event when he was up to 16K.  Since then it has been a progressive slide down the chip counts for Adam and he took another big hit in a blind versus blind confrontation.  With the blinds at 200/400 it folded around to Adam in the small blind.  He asked the player in the big blind how many chips he had before raising to 1.2K total.  The other player moved all-in and Levy didn’t hesitate before calling with A7.  He was trailing his opponent’s AK and the K8378 board didn’t improve Adam’s situation, so he was forced to ship a total of 7,425 chips the other player’s way, leaving himself with only 2.8K.

A few hands later we caught Levy moving all-in for his last 2,525 chips and the dealer asked if he had any other chips behind.  The reason the dealer inquired is because Adam had a rather sizeable banana on the table as well and the dealer wanted to make sure there were no chips hiding behind it.

“Nope,” Levy replied.  “Just the banana.”  He then picked up the fruit and put it in the middle of the table with the rest of his chips.  “It is yellow though, so it should count for 1K more,” Adam joked.

Another player at the table then joked that should a player want to isolate Levy, they would be required to raise at least an apple.  As enticing as the opportunity for some additional potassium was, everyone at the table decided to pass and Levy picked up another 800 chips or so.

Levy managed to get his chips in one last time when he shoved his last 3K in with A-Q and ran into another player’s pocket kings. The pair held up and Levy’s day day was over.

We caught some interesting dialogue while Adam was on his way out of the tournament area. He stopped to chat with JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado, his roommate, who asked an odd favor from Levy:

“Can you go home and make sure the oven isn’t on?”

Levy laughed. “Really?”

“Yeah I have this thing where I feel like I’m forgetting something. It could be the oven or the toaster,” Alvarado continued.

At this point the entire table began to get a laugh out of the conversation, plus Jon “sketchy1″ Eaton, who chimed in from another table.

“How do you leave a toaster on? It’s not even possible!”

And with that, Levy turned, fruit in hand, and headed home to check on the electronics and have a banana.

Another interesting situation arose a few tables over when Christian “charder30″ Harder (pictured left) was heads-up with another player in a pot with the flop reading K76.  Christian was under the gun and therefore the action was on him, but before he could bet his opponent (who was in the hijack) bet 2.4K out of turn.  Harder mulled over his options before betting 800, perhaps thinking that since the action changed the 2.4K bet would no longer be binding.   From what we could tell (though we couldn’t hear everything clearly ), the dealer said the 2.4K bet would have to stand as a raise.  Christian called the remaining 1.6K and the two saw a turn come 9.  He checked to his opponent who waited until Harder acted this time around before betting out 3K.  Christian thought for a minute before folding, asking the other player to, “show the absurd bluff!”  The other player did not oblige.

WSOP 2009 Event #30: $2.5K PLO

A flurry of eliminations, including Isaac “westmenloaa” Baron in 21st place, leaves the PLO event with only 17 runners.  Bracelet winner Rami “arbianight” Boukai is still in the running for his second final table of this WSOP.  He is in the middle of the pack at the moment with just over 100K.  If the action continues this quickly, this final table might be one of the few that doesn’t have to play until 3AM to get down to the final table.

WSOP 2009 Event #29: $10K Heads-Up NLHE

Leo “SuperfluousMan” Wolpert got out to an early chip lead against his Final Four opponent Jamin Stokes, but Stokes has since pulled ahead to a 2 to 1 chip advantage.  However, with the blinds at 30K/60K and 3,840,000 chips in play, Wolpert still has some room to maneuver
