Baker, Veldhuis Advance In Shootout by Rachel on 06.21.09, 9:32 pm

It didn’t take too long for David “Bakes” Baker to knock his table down from three players to one. Baker was the last man standing and he will return to fight again in Round Two tomorrow. Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis (pictured at left) has moved on to day two as well.

Amit “amak316″ Makhija recently got his table down to heads-up play when he and the short stack at the table got it all-in preflop with Makhija holding A-K to the other player’s pocket threes. The QT3 gave the threes the advantage and the 6 on the turn left Amit with only one more opportunity to spike a jack and eliminate the player. He did just that when the J fell on the river to make his Broadway straight to knock his opponent out. He and his heads-up opponent appeared to have fairly evenly matched stacks, though, if we had to guess, Amit might have the slight chip disadvantage.

-Ryan “youngluc” Young is still dueling with his heads-up opponent. He appears to hold a small chip lead over his opponent, but this one could last a while.

-Both Peter “Nordberg” Feldman and Davidi “legrouzin” Kitai are heads-up at their table with substantial chip advantages over their opponents.

-Daniel “amichaiKK” Makowski is battling with Phil Ivey at what is possibly the most closely watched match in the room. Ivey appears to hold the advantage at the moment, but Makowsky is not down for the count just yet.

-Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier and Matt “ch0ppy” Kay are in the thick of 3-handed battles at their tables. Steven “zugwat” Silverman (pictured at right) and Scott “gunning4you” Seiver are also 3-handed, but grinding short stacks.

WSOP 2009 Event #38: $2K LHE

Alex “Kadabra” Keating has been eliminated in 5th place at the final table of the $2K LHE event.  This was the 21-year old’s first WSOP final table and he earned $39,977 for his finish.  Ian “IanJ” Johns is still in and currently sitting at third in chips with 240K.  Marc Naalden holds the commanding chip lead with nearly 2 million chips.

WSOP 2009 Event #39: $1.5K NLHE

We spent a while watching the table now occupied by Kevin “ImALuckSac” MacPhee (pictured at left), Darryll “DFish” Fish and, more recently, Raymond Davis and his huge chip stack without catching MacPhee in a hand. However, right after we walked away MacPhee played a huge pot that he was happy to tell us about on our next trip around the Brasillia Room.

With the blinds at 1K/2K with an ante of 200, the player in seat four raised to 5K. MacPhee made the call as did the players in the blinds. The flop was 10-7-3 rainbow. The small blind led out for 5K, the big blind folded, and then the player in seat four moved all in. MacPhee, who had both players remaining in the hand covered, moved all in as well and the small blind followed suit. The hands:

MacPhee: K-K
Small Blind: A-Q
Seat Four: 8-8

The turn was a nine, giving the player in seat four an open-ended straight draw, but the river was a harmless five. MacPhee moved over the 100K-chip mark with the pot and now has 116.5K.

Earlier in the level, Fish led out for 6.5K on a flop of T77 and the player in seat one re-raised to 17K. Fish thought for a minute or two before moving all in. His opponent then went into the tank before eventually declaring a call.

“You have a ten?” Fish asked immediately. The other player didn’t answer but tabled 55 as Fish turned over his 99. The turn was the 8 and the river was the 2 and Fish scooped the pot. After the hand he was up to 138K but he has since lost a few pots and slipped back to around 80K.

Mohsin “chicagocards1″ Charania and three others player paid 5.2K to see a flop of 664. The player in seat five checked as did Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade. The player in seat one then bet 11K and Charania raised 22.7K more without much thought. It folded back around to seat one who told Charania, “I have an over-pair.” Charania didn’t say anything, and his opponent eventually mucked showing 77. This prompted Charania to grab his cards and flip over the 7 before mucking. He is up to 255K at last check.

Shawn “sprstoner” Glines and Frank “Round42″ Rusnak (pictured at right) have also moved into the six-figure chips counts with 190K and 105K respectively.

Amanda “Mandy B” Baker - 65K
Zacahry “CrazyZachary” Clark - 60K
Tracey “xtracey” Nguyen - 50K
Zak “traction” Gilbert - 38K
Tristan “Cre8ive” Wade - 36K
