Aguiar Ousted, Katchalov Cruising by Court on 04.22.09, 10:35 pm

In December of 2007 Eugene Katchalov ran over the final table of the Doyle Brunson Poker Classic, absolutely destroying everyone else at the final table and getting to the title as quickly and easily as anyone could remember.  Day 4 of the WPT Championship is looking like more of the same for Katchalov.  He has jumped out to a sizeable chip lead with over 3 million in chips and just keeps busting players.

One of his victims was Jonathan “FatalError” Aguiar (right) who was all in preflop with pocket queens but up against the kings of Katchalov.  For his 36th place finish Aguiar earns $40,855.

It seems like everytime you look over at the table Eugene is at that he is stacking chips and either sending a player to the payout line or taking a chunk of their chips.  He recently finished off Philip Gurian in 30th place when his jacks help up all in preflop against Gurian’s pocket eights.  Whatver hand someone has Eugene seems to show up with a better holding and so far his hands are holding up.

Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson was able to get a double up through another player that has been hot for much of the tournament.  On a jack high flop Marco was all in with pocket queens against Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis who had KJ.  Marco’s overpair held up and after the double he was up to almost 1 million chips.

Yevginey”Atimos” Timoshenko took a big hit when his AK ran into the pocket aces of Ross Boatman for a 2 million chip pot.  After losing the hand Timoshenko still had over 1.7 million in chips, but was a million shy of where he was before the hand.  He has dropped almost another million since, falling to around 900k after he had pocket kings all in preflop against the pocket aces of Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier.  Elky’s aces held to double him to over 1 million in chips.

The last level of the day will be played at the 12k / 24k blind level with 3k antes.  29 players will start the level and of those the survivors will return tomorrow to continue on towards a seat at the televised final table.

Chip Counts going into the last level with Katchalov leading with 4.3 million:

Christian “charder” Harder - 2.5 million
Steve “MrSmokey1″ Billirakis - 1.6 million
Brian “tsarrast” Rast - 1.4 million

Owen “Ocrowe” Crowe - 1 million
Blake “Balla-B13″ Cahail - 1 million
Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson - 1 million
Yevginey “Atimos” Timoshenko - 900k
