Though well past the (insane) rebuy period, Event #5 has failed to slow down. We caught up with several tables stacked with PocketFives players, the first of which included Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck, Chad “lilholdem954″ Batista, and Marco “CrazyMarco” Johnson. Batista, looking a little short-stacked, managed to turn his 5K into 15K with pocket 7s. Maridu doubled up with AK.
At the next table over, Tim “tmay420″ West cracked AA with KK when he flopped a set. After the hand, Kevin “BeL0WaB0ve” Saul said, “One day, I want to run like Tim West,” and then scampered to a neighboring table to recount the story to Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy. Saul got his wish a few hands later when his 68o defeated AK in a blind versus blind confrontation. Saul told PocketFives that the big blind he eliminated claimed to be a poker commentator in Europe. The torrent of French curses heard on the way out made the table chuckle.
Mark “pokerbok” Vos and Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi tangled a few hands later at another table. We caught up to the action just in time to see the 3

board with 20K in the pot. Vos took a long time to size up Sorel’s raise on the turn, but eventually folded and donated his chips.
Ken Goldin described that had a “horrible level” and is down to 29K. Losing two pots with pocket 5s, Goldin vented, “So much for karma.”
