666 Devils Lichtenberger by Jessica on 06.23.09, 9:57 pm

Mere minutes after heads-up play began between Peter “Belabacsi” Traply and Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger (pictured right), the two online pros got it all-in preflop in a classic race situation with Andrew holding AQ to Peter’s 66. Lichtenberger, who held the slight chip lead at the start of the hand, looked poised to grab his first WSOP bracelet after the flop fell A98, but Traply spiked the 6 on the turn to leave Lichtenberger drawing dead with one card to come. Once the chips were counted down, Andrew was left with 250K at the 20K/40K blind level.

Lichtenberger was able to double up a few hands later when he once again held AQ, which was racing with Traply’s pocket nines. The board ran out JT5TK to make Lichtenberger a Broadway straight on the river and propel him back over the million chip mark.

The momentum appeared to turn Lichtenberger’s way when he was facing an all-in bet preflop from Traply and decided to call for his tournament life with pocket threes. Amazingly, he was ahead of Traply’s pocket deuces. He doubled up to nearly three million and has since retaken the chip lead in this back and forth battle.

WSOP 2009 Event #42: $2.5K Mixed Game

The remaining nine players have relocated to the secondary feature table to play down to a champion this evening. Since moving, several short stacks have gotten it all-in only to double up or chop the pot in order to stay alive. We watched one such hand in the Omaha H/L round where Layne Flack opened for a raise from under the gun with the betting limits at 15K/30K. Eric “jakz101″ Crain (pictured left) 3-bet from under the gun plus one and Dario Alioto called, leaving just a small number of chips behind. The flop came down 864 and Flack led out with a bet. Crain raised and Alioto put his last 41K in with a 3-bet. Both Flack and Crain called and they saw a turn of K. Flack bet the remainder of his chips on the turn and Crain called. All the hands were turned face up and here is what everyone had:

Alioto - A982 (nut low)
Flack - AQ66 (set of sixes)
Crain - AQ53 (open-ended straight draw w/ A-3 low)

The river was the T giving Crain the low portion of the side pot, Flack the high portion of the side and main pots, and Alioto the low portion of the main pot. All of the players survived and Chris “SLOPPYKLOD” Klodnicki’s rail let out a sigh for their friend who is the shortest stack at the table and could use someone busting out before him.

WSOP 2009 Event #45: $10K PLHE Championship

Chris “Moorman1″ Moorman’s (pictured right) short stack has disappeared from the $10K PLHE event. It didn’t vanish; he lost it in a pot to defending champion Nenad Medic. Moorman raised the pot after four players limped preflop and one of the limpers, Medic, reraised pot. Moorman called all in and saw that his A-Q was in bad shape against Medic’s pocket queens. Moorman was unable to improve and he was sent to the rail.

Others eliminated since our last report include Jamie “thecronic420″ Rosen, Phil “USCPhildo” Collins, Shannon Shorr, Jon “FieryJustice” Little, Matt “mattg1983″ Graham, Lex “RasZi” Veldhuis, Barry “barryg1″ Greenstein and Tom “titantom32″ Braband.

Steven “PiKappRaider” Burkholder lost a good portion of his stack in the past level. Burkholder and another player saw a flop of K92. Burkholder bet 2K and his opponent called. The turn was the 8 and this time his opponent led out for 8K. Burkholder thought for a few moments and called. Both players checked the Q river and Burkholder mucked when his opponent tabled AA. Burkholder was left with 28.5K.

Players will go on dinner break at the end of Level 6. We’ll have a comprehensive list of chip counts for you then.

WSOP 2009 Event #44: $2.5K Razz

Play was paused briefly after “Miami” John Cenuto collapsed at the table. An emergency medical team was called to the scene and Cernuto was taken to a nearby hospital for care. We send out our best wishes to Cenuto for a swift recovery. The rest of the field has resumed the tournament in his absence. P5ers Zac “Zacpacker” Fellows, Justin Bonomo, Allen “albari” Bari, and Ryan “gotskillz” Fisler remain in the field as the remaining 55 players near the money bubble.

WSOP 2009 Event #46: $2.5K Omaha H/L

Nearly 400 players have turned out for today’s 5PM tournament, including Senovio “Dorsal Fin” Ramirez, JR “JR Hamilsbach” Hamilton, Matt “plattsburgh” Vengrin, Chris “SKOAL” Falconer, and Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck. Maria has the pleasure of being seated next to Raymond Davis, who appears to be a little jealous of all the media attention Mayrinck is drawing. Davis and Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire, who is seated one table over, are currently formulating a plan to pretend to be poker players from remote European countries in order to garner sponsorship deals and photo ops.

WSOP 2009 Event #43: $1K Serniors Event

The seniors are on their dinner break until 7:30 p.m. It appears several were holding on until the money bubble bursted as a long line formed at the payout table shortly after. One of the we saw waiting for his money was Bud “BudmansCom” Stowe, but Steve “schtoof” Baldwin has doubled his stack since our last report. We’ll be following his progress throughout the day.
