Darryll “DFish” Fish has been short stacked for what feels like days in the $5K NLHE event. Fish recently chipped up above 300K, but was crushed when he ran A-Q into an opponent’s A-A. Left with 80K, Darryll had to work the short stack once more and did so effectively. Fish doubled up twice, the first time with J-9 against A-Q, and the second with K-J against pocket eights. With a little bit of luck, and a lot of patience, Darryll is back up around 300K.
Billy “Patrolman35″ Kopp continues to cruise. Kopp called an all-in bet from Cody “thugmoneymakr” Slaubaugh after David Pham originally raised the action from under the gun. Pham folded, and Kopp tabled QQ. Slaubaugh held A-10, and found no help from the 7-7-5-6-7 board. Kopp leads all remaining players, with close to a million in chips. Danny “dannyills” Illingworth is over a million, but we’re more impressed with the fact that he turned 21 just six days ago.
Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka remains aggressive, recently eliminating Nenad Medic with K-K against A-Q. Jaka flopped a king to make the deed even more difficult, and Medic couldn’t catch up. Mike “SowersUNCC” Sowers pushed a player all in holding A-A, and was way ahead when his opponent tabled A-3. A three flopped for a sweat. The turn was a blank, but a three spiked on the river, and the rail exploded. Sowers dropped to 260K, but didn’t seem to sweat the bad beat.
WSOP EVENT #17: $1K NLHE LADIES EVENT
Play has ended for the night in the ladies event. Maria “maridu” Mayrinck, who we’ve been tracking all day, made it to day two with 25.5K. There is at least one other PocketFiver who made it to the 2 p.m. restart tomorrow, though. We found Jamie “mmmwawa” Kerstetter at the end of the day sitting with 24.5K in chips. Unfortunately, we didn’t see Anna “VietCutie” Wroblewski at the end of the day. Hopefully, we just missed her on her way out the door and she still has some chips. Erica Schoenberg will definitely be playing tomorrow as will Maria Ho. The finished with 23.3K and 24.8, respectively.
In all, 146 of the original 1,060 entrants made it to the end of the day, and 117 will make the money tomorrow.
WSOP EVENT #18: $10K OMAHA H/L
Over in the 10K Omaha Hi-Low event, Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire raised on the button with the blinds at 400/800 and the limits at 800/1600. The player in the small blind called and they saw a flop of J

Across the room Annie Duke got three-quarters of a pot that saw she, Greg Raymer and Thang Luu putting money in on every street. The board read: 5

WSOP 2009 Event #16 $1.5K Seven Card Stud
We bumped into Jason “treysfull21″ Mercier in the halls of the Rio outside of the Brasilia Room, and he told us he just busted from Event #16 $1.5K Seven Card Stud. “I didn’t win a single hand when we got down to two tables,” Mercier explained. Jason was eliminated in 16th place, which is not bad for his first live stud tournament. “I’m just gonna’ go paid and go to bed,” he joked. Mercier will receive $4,646 when he gets to the cage.
