As the players in the Event #2, the 40K No-Limit Hold ‘em tournament, returned from their last break Andrew “good2cu” Robl stopped to talk to David “Raptor517″ Benefield and Dani “Ansky” Stern before taking his seat. Benefield had been nursing a short stack for quite some time, so Robl made a few jokes about Benefield’s grinding skills before breaking out an old mantra for some of the most successful young internet pros.
“Ship it. Holla!” said Robl, prompting Benefield and Stern to look at each other and say, almost in sync, “I haven’t heard that in a while.”
Benefield made it through half of level 13 with the blinds at 4K/8K with a 1K ante before he shipped the rest of his chips to Stern. Benefield moved all-in pre-flop with K
Q
but couldn’t overcome Stern’s 9
9
.
Stern (pictured at right) had picked up a pot off Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi earlier in the level. He raised to 21K under the gun and Mizzi called one off the button. The flop came down 9
8
6
, and both players checked. The turn was the K
. Stern led out for 40K and Mizzi called. The river was the 2
. This time Stern bet 100K. Mizzi thought for a few minutes before mucking and giving Stern the big pot.
Mizzi got some chips back later by busting Phil Ivey. Ivey moved in for less than 20 big blinds. Mizzi called out of the small blind with T
T
and Ivey turned over A
Q
. The board run out J
6
6
9
K
, and Ivey was sent to the rail.
The action continued at table 66 after Ivey’s bustout. Nam Le raised to 22K before the flop and was re-raised to 58K by Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis. David “Bakes” Baker then moved all-in for about 435K more and both Le and Veldhuis folded.
